(More customer reviews)The first 7 chapters of this book which cover the existing cellular telephony systems is an excellent introduction to these systems. Chapter 8 on "Low-Tier Personal Communication Systems" is unfortunately just a teaser, as it covers all of these types of systems in just one chapter and provides much much less material about these systems that the chapter per system coverage of the macrocellar systems. Thus the title of the book should really be "Cellular Telephony Systems: Case Studies".

(More customer reviews)This is one of the most important books on public health in recent years. The authors make a very clear case that the cart was placed before the horse when it comes to mobile phone safety.
After some very alarming quotes from a collection of well known scientists, authors and researchers, along with some background on electromagnetic radiation, the book delves into 110 questions concerning electromagnetic pollution. The 70-page Q and A session covers a massive amount of ground, from the political wranglings that removed the ability of state and local governments to challenge placement of wireless masts (towers), to the pseudoscience of so-called cell phone "protection" devices. There are lots of practical tips on reducing EMF exposure, recommended ways on measuring EMF and a host of resources for further information.
The time for environmental groups to get on board with this is NOW...there is recent research showing that EMF has profound influences on wildlife and may be playing a role in the disappearance of our bats, bees, fire flies, house sparrows and other species. Rome is burning...large organizations that claim to care about animals, wildlife and the environment should read this book.
Ultimately the book is a manifesto for change, a way to empower and educate. It takes a very complex topic and makes it understandable.

Wireless# Certification Official Study Guide (Exam PW0-050) Review

(More customer reviews)I just passed the Wireless# test today with a really good score. Before taking the test, I read every page of this book. It also has very good questions (with answers explained) at the end of each chapter. If you have a desire to work in the wireless field, but have no real experience yet, the chapters on wireless security, installation, troubleshooting and optimization really give you a head start towards that experience!
Sure you can find a study guide that will just barely give you enough information to pass the test. If you would rather have more information behind the meat, this book is for you. Some of this material was new to me, so I wanted to really know the subjects before taking the test. Besides, this book is the official study guide for the Wireless# test by the CWNP program.
This book (and certification) really is a mile wide and a couple of inches deep. Great place to start in the wireless field. After that, you're really set to start with your CWNA study and test. Now you're getting into a subject that is only a half mile wide, and many more feet deep. CWSP is even smaller but much deeper.

(More customer reviews)This is not a bad book, I could have given it 5 stars. But this book has many flaws:
(1) This book is basically research results done by the authors. There are many things not clearly described (Remeber, this is a book, not an academic paper). I have to figure out many things by myself and I am not a novice in CDMA....
(2) The english is not very easy to understand, maybe the author should have taken some writing class.
(3) There are many errors in the numbering of the figure captions.
But generally, this is a book that you need if you want to learn more about CDMA system design. However I think this book can be improved much more than it is now.

3G Wireless Demystified Review

(More customer reviews)This book has a lot of good info, but is riddled with silly errors, nonsensical text, references to figures that either don't exist or which discuss something else in the text and general clutter not to mention amateurish illustrations. In places it seems like all three authors wrote their own paragraph on a topic and rather than condense them down they instead printed all three back to back!
The overall usefulness of the book is clouded because of this. If the authors and editor couldn't catch some of these basic flaws, who is to say that anything else is valid?
