CWSP Certified Wireless Security Professional Official Study Guide (Exam PW0-200) Review

I spent many, many hours going over the CWSP Official Study Guide. I feel like Devin Akin did an awesome job of authoring it. This book was developed to help people attain the Certified Wireless Security Professional certification but I use it whenever I need a definitive answer on questions related to wireless security.
A ton of research was put into making sure all types of wireless security products were covered and I think you'll benefit not only from the challenge of the CWSP exam but also from the knowledge you'll gain while studying for it. I can certainly vouch that undertaking this complex subject has definitely helped my career in the IT industry. Getting the CWNA and CWSP certifications could do the same for yours.

Wireless Radiation Rescue:safeguarding your family from the risks of electro-pollution Review

Wireless Radiation Rescue:safeguarding your family from the risks of electro-pollution
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Fact: we are a world committed to technology, especially when technology provides immediate access to people and information. How many people do NOT own a microwave - or several at office, home, garage? Cell Phones and computers were not around a few years ago and now it seems as though even the youngest child who can carry and poke has a cell phone on their person 'just in case of an emergency'. And who can compete in the communications world without a computer on the desk, a laptop in the backpack, or an iPhone variation in the pocket/purse/belt? Can anyone remember the telephone that was on a cord in a room in the house where you actually had to walk to to answer? Is anyone without the various digital radios, timers, televisions with video games, etc.? That is just the way we live today - too little concerned about the side effects of 'convenience' and not concerned enough about the daily increasing amount of electromagnetic energy filling our breathing and living space - energy that has been proven to kill bees and diminish other wildlife as well as injure our sacred green earth.
'Kerry Crofton, PhD is a health educator, the director of WellBeing International, and a concerned parent.' So begins this informative book on safeguarding your family from the risks of electro-pollution. Her purpose is to alert a nation of device consumers to the possible risks to mental and physical and environmental health. She divides her book into steps as The 4 Step Plan: Know the Evidence, Know the Risks, Know the Safer Solutions, and Plan for the Future. What proceeds after her lengthy introduction is a conversational book accompanied by photographs illustrating the problems she is outlining, and lots of data gathering and presentation by experts in the field of the effects of exposure to electromagnetic pollution. It is startling and while it may not be absolutely documented with long term proof (not enough time has elapsed to know just how dangerous are our habits with these devices), Crofton at least is the New Age Paul Revere we ned to alert us to think about the consequences of our habits before the damage is physically perceived.
Some may find this book a bit simplistic and some may ignore the information as 'sensational' and not worthy of time spent reading. But, as Crofton alludes to in her book, just remember how not too long ago no one connected smoking with lung cancer....This book deserves our attention and our consideration. Dr. Crofton may be a needed harbinger. Grady Harp, October 10

This book is not so easy to follow. It explains everything with Linux codes and doesn't explain the underline concepts clearly. This might be a good book for software developers or IT system administrator but for people who're trying to understand the real concepts, this book is not the right one.

IEEE 802 Wireless Systems: Protocols, Multi-Hop Mesh/Relaying, Performance and Spectrum Coexistence Review

IEEE 802 Wireless Systems: Protocols, Multi-Hop Mesh/Relaying, Performance and Spectrum Coexistence
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this book as a software engineer hoping to get a better understand of IEEE 802.11 networks operate. That information is in the book, but it's not presented as clearly as it could be and it is practically buried by other topics. Some of those other topics, such as the author's proposal for "Future Mesh Technologies", seemed out of place in a book that otherwise describes standardized technologies. I remain in search of a better book on the subject.
It seems clear that the authors have significant knowledge in the field, and they often revert to jargon and acronyms that I found impenetrable. A reader with sufficient knowledge would probably find the book more approachable. However, it is particularly egregious that some abbreviations are used without initial definitions.
Whether intentional or not, there is significant redundancy between some of the chapters. In a book that is so dense written, I found myself skimming by the end to avoid slogging through these similar-seeming paragraphs. Chapters have been written by different subsets of the authors--there are in fact more authors than get credit on the cover--and it is possible, this redundancy represents a lack of coordination among them.
Finally, the book contains a couple of real gems, like the chapter introduction that explains the chapter will conclude with "a conclusion", and a definition of "cognitive" from Wikipedia, when any dictionary would have been a better source.

Essentials of Short-Range Wireless (The Cambridge Wireless Essentials Series) Review

Essentials of Short-Range Wireless (The Cambridge Wireless Essentials Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Essentials of Short-Range Wireless" is an excellent summary of short-range wireless technologies, an area of rapidly growing importance within electronic product design and engineering.
The book manages to be both concise and extremely informative, and is written in a very easy-to-read style which is well-suited for professionals either with engineering degrees or with non-technical backgrounds.
The book provides the best summary of wireless architecture and parameters which I have seen, as well as a deeper analysis and comparison of the Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11/Wi-Fi, IEEE 802.15.4/Zigbee, and Bluetooth low energy wireless standards.
In addition, the book provides a great deal of practical information on implementing a wireless solution, as well as a description of the key product applications and emerging markets for short-range wireless technologies.
I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in wireless product design. Nick Hunn has done the field a great service by writing a guide as compact, useful and descriptive as "Essentials of Short-Range Wireless".

I was hoping that this book would help me boost my Wi-Fi signal around the house, since the reception downstairs is a little weak. Well, it did show me how to boost my signal - for up to 20 miles! Ok, seriously, long distance wi-fi is one of the 15 projects in this book, but my solution was actually in building the high-gain antenna project in chapter 4, which did indeed solve my reception problems.
The book is very well written, and has plenty of photos to guide you along the way. The projects are definately cool, and there are plenty to keep us geek types busy.
If you are using wireless networking, I would encourage you to take a look at this book.

If you don't own it, buy it now. This is the new Wi-Fi security reference book. As the head of Wi-Fi training and certification for Aerohive Networks, I've put this book, as well as the new CWNA Study Guide by the same authors, into every instructor-led class student kit. Additionally, all technical employees at Aerohive will receive one of these books (as soon as they're finished reading the CWNA book). I know each of these authors/editors personally, and you won't find a more experienced bunch of Wi-Fi professionals. Wi-Fi administration and security is what they do...it's all they do. I think I bought the first 40 copies, and I plan on buying hundreds more. This is the one - just buy it.

A Guide to the Wireless Engineering Body of Knowledge (WEBOK) Review

A Guide to the Wireless Engineering Body of Knowledge (WEBOK)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was expecting to use this as some kind of reference book. There is very little technical content and the scope is somewhat misleading. It's more like a table of contents for what a 'Cellular Telephone' wireless technician should know. There is so much more that fits under the heading of "wireless engineering" than this book addresses or even seams to acknowledge exists. I do appreciate having what I would call a 'Cellular Telephone Wireless Technology Concepts' book though. It doesn't take up to much of the shelf so I will likely hang on to it.
Not what I would have expected from the IEEE Com Soc.

This book was a great tool for helping me pass the CWNA! Tom has covered the material in enough detail that it gives you a foundation of wireless knowledge to build on to pass the CWNA test. As Tom states in the book, you need to use other reference material, in addition to this book, to prepare for the test.
thanks Tom!

CWTS candidates, please skip this review and just buy the book. It is the only study guide officially recognized by the CWNP; if you read and re-read it until you understand every word, you WILL pass the exam. CWNA and CCNA Wireless candidates should also strongly consider starting here as well.
To everyone else, business-minded or technical, I still can not praise this book highly enough. Anyone looking for a vendor-neutral overview of wireless networking written in industry-standard language need look no further. While designed for test prep, any reader will take away the knowledge necessary to set up and secure a SOHO access point or intelligently discuss business requirements with a network consultant. And unlike other technical titles, you might actually enjoy reading this!
Five stars - highly recommended - from a two-hour-old CWTS.

Having just taken (and passed) the CWNA exam with this as my primary reference, I applaud the authors, both for their thorough coverage and readable style. This is one of the best exam prep books I've used. My advice: read it cover to cover, then read the last chapter (802.11n) at least one more time... there were more questions about HT than I was expecting. The test is quite up-to-date.
