After finished reading the book, I felt that I have learned quite a lot about wireless LAN and wirelss IP system. PHY & MAC designs for 802.11 and HIPERLAN, some ideas about QoS and a bit of security are well discussed in this book. I would say that this is the book you want to get if you really want to learn more about decisions behind some important design parameters of the existing wireless LAN standards. Mostly, the book focuses on 802.11b, but 802.11a and HIPERLAN/2 are covered in a pretty good depth. Well, the hi-speed wireless lan and wireless atm book by Benny Bing is also recommended, but this book (by Prasad) provides more recent information, plus it is very readable.
I would give this book five stars if this book were better written. Sometimes the content just repeats itself too many times. Also, some abbreviations are not listed in the back, and this gave me some hard time figuring out their meanings. And if you take into account its high price, I would say that I am quite reasonable in giving this book four stars. :)
Warning: I would say that the section regarding TCP performance of wireless LAN/IP in this book is NOT well treated at all. The readers who are interested in this issue could go reading papers from IEEEXplore. There are few good ones such as that of Randy Katz and his advisees from UC Berkeley.
In general, this book is a good for those who want to get a firm ground on design aspects of wireless LAN. It provides you with many interesting ideas. Good job!
