(More customer reviews)LTE is the next evolution of wireless communications. I have to state at the outset that as a former COO of NYNEX Mobile and one of the proponents of CDMA in the 1980s, I find that LTE is merely a natural progression of what was started almost a quarter century ago. LTE does not deliver any major technical advances, it implements them. OFDM has been around for almost fifty years in some form as has been the MIMO antenna configuration. LTE is the natural progression to an all IP fabric, a vision that Irwin Jacobs and those at Qualcomm in the 1980s had envisioned.
The authors of this book have achieved a very useful product which has a great demand. They have managed to write about LTE in a highly structured yet simple and direct manner. They cover all of the key issues at a level of detail which is perfect for those seeking to get updated as well as those who are starting out. This book is NOT a technical dissertation of LTE or wireless. If you have the expertise it fills out the edges, if you do not it will enlighten you.
The authors move through the book in a logical manner and at no point did I find them speaking down to the reader or making a presentation over simplistic. In a sense this is an overview but in a sense it is also a well composed detailing of LTE.
Unlike many of the other books I have seen on similar topics, this does not have the feel of some overused power point presentations with words interspersed. The flow of ideas is superb.
I would strongly recommend this book to anyone seeking to get a feel for the details of LTE.

From the editors of the highly successful WCDMA for UMTS, this new book gives a complete and up-to-date overview of Long Term Evolution (LTE) in a systematic and clear manner. It starts with an in-depth explanation of the background and standardization process before moving on to examine the system architecture evolution (SAE). The basics of air interface modulation choices are introduced and key subjects such as 3GPP LTE physical layer and protocol solutions are described. Mobility aspects and radio resource management together with radio and end-to-end performance are assessed. The voice solution and voice capacity in LTE are also illustrated. Finally, the main differences between LTE TDD and FDD modes are examined and HSPA evolution in 3GPP Releases 7 and 8 is described.
LTE for UMTS is one of the first books to provide a comprehensive guide to the standards and technologies of LTE. Key features of the book include:
Covers all the key aspects of LTE in a systematic manner
Presents full description of 3GPP Release 8 LTE
Examines the expected performance of LTE
Written by experts actively involved in the 3GPP standards and product development.
