Plain and simple, this book is the result of years of work, including the publication of a beta version so we could make sure the final product is the very best textbook available. Just as an example, the beta version was 670 pages, and comments from reviewers like you have resulted in a 1,000 page powerhouse. Written by Michael Steer, Lampe Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University, the independent modules in this book can be employed for a single course, or the same textbook can carry the student and instructor through multiple courses in microwave and radio frequency design. This is a collection of wire antenna constructions articles taken mostly from QST from the 1950ties up to 1998. Actually it is a simple compilation of copies of the articles.
I am personally missing a detailed list of the articles and some kind of Index. Otherwise it's great to read these fine articles packed with good ideas, and of cause if your target is set on a wire antenna not much has changed over the last 60 years - all solid information
Further to me it's a great thing to read original articles from G5RV and W3 DZZ - to me this is a first time
This small book is a treasure of gold in a number of different ways

A most welcome book on recent developments in antenna theory and practice, fully justifying use of the term "Frontiers" in the title. Perhaps the closest that comes to this book in coverage of modern topics is Volakis's Handbook, now four years old. Modern applications of this classical field are emerging at a fast pace - largely spurred by the growth of wireless communications technology. In one handy volume one finds an encyclopedic coverage of modern antenna types - including ultra-wideband antenna arrays, smart antennas, Vivaldi arrays, artificial magnetic conductors, metamaterial antennas, leaky-wave antennas, plasma antennas and reconfigurable antennas; along with a select coverage of numerical modeling and optimizing techniques and of emerging applications in medicine, including ingestible capsule antennas! The book has a lovely cover and a spine that adorns my shelf along with classics like Schelkunoff and Friis, Silver, Kraus, Collin, Hansen, Stutzman and Thiele, Elliott, and Balanis, to name only a few.
The book is clearly meant for select readers - such as a graduate student with a background of EM fields and waves who is looking for a topic for research in antennas, or is in the midst of it. In general, the book will serve as a great reference for any one who has more than a casual interest in antennas.

This book is a great intro to digital receiver design and techniques. The focus of this book however, is for those receivers which are used for Radar Warning Receivers (RWRs). The second chapter starts off with typical and desirable characteristics applicable to these type of receivers (wides bandwidth and large instantaneous dynamic range, etc). He then uses this intro to gradually introduce all parts of a receiver and signal processing techniques.
This book covers ADC and their pertinent selection criteria, analog RF chain analysis, probability of detection, FFTs, monobit receiver design, antenna arrays, angle of arrival, spectral estimation techniques (I actually like the presentation here more than compared to Proakis and Manolakis's Digital Signal Processing book), and then how do you test it all as a system.
There are many more topics that I am missing, but I think that I have hit on the main points. All in all, I would recommend this book if you are interested in learning the techniques used in RWRs, but the chapter on ADCs is also good for any designer looking for ways to choose ADCs and how to test them.

This textbook is the best of all fundamental texts on smart antennas and adaptive arrays. It reduces this complex topic into the basic elements that are necessary for understanding smart antennas. Basic chapters are written on electromagnetics, antennas, arrays, random processes, channel modeling, spectral estimation, and adaptive arrays. Most chapters include worked out Matlab examples illustrating concepts just explained. The Matlab codes for each example, figure, and homework problems are included with the text. I have seen no other comparable text which lucidly explains the foundations of smart antennas and which also gives computer examples.

I seldom have the desire to write any type of a review for a text that I would not recommend to someone else. However, I feel the need to say that if you are searching for a text to introduce you to radio wave propagation...just keep browsing. This is NOT the one to get. There is really very little of value here, in my humble opinion. This text has very little detail on any aspect of propagation and instead refers the reader to other works, such as the ITU-R publications, for further details, far too often. I was so relieved that I purchased it at a huge discount from a used bookseller.
I recommend the following texts:
Propagation of Radiowaves, 2nd Edition (Electromagnetic Waves)
Radiowave Propagation
Introduction to RF Propagation
