(More customer reviews)This is a self-contained reference book for smart antennas. This can also be used as a textbook for senior university students who are studying mobile channels, diversity and antenna array.
Pratical issues such as branch correlation and mutual coupling among antenna elements are presented. It also presents a semi-analytical approach to analyze optimum array in the presence of branch correlation and multiple cochannel interference.

Useful as a text as well as a reference, this is one of thefirst books of its kind to combine basic and advanced topics ofradiowave propagation and smart antennas into a single volume. Thebook is interdisciplinary in nature and contains material drawn fromthe electromagnetics and communications areas. Physical phenomenaleading to the modeling and prediction of path loss, andcharacterizing the small-scale and medium-scale fluctuations of thereceived signal, are treated in detail. Several new path loss modelsare included. Both narrowband and wideband radio channelcharacterizations are discussed. Statistical descriptions ofgeometrically based single bounce scattering models that are useful indeveloping spatial channel models for smart arrays are presented.Principles of diversity and smart antennas for reducing fading andco-channel interference are presented. Performance evaluation of thesearrays in the presence of fading and shadowing is treated. Both TDMAand CMDA systems are considered. Effects of element mutual couplingand correlation in limiting the system performance are elaborated. Finally, principles of multiple-input multiple-output communicationsystems that are increasingly becoming attractive owing to theirenormous bit rate capabilities are covered. Several practical examples are worked out throughout the text.Additional problems that help the reader assimilate the material andadvance to higher-level topics are included at the end of eachchapter. Radiowave Propagation and Smart Antennas for WirelessCommunications has been written for use in a graduate course oncommunications and represents a comprehensive reference for researchscientists and practitioners working in fields related to the topic.
